Program Philosophy

As licensed Doctors of Physical Therapy, our goal is to build a supportive community for BIPOC students and student-athletes to ensure they are not playing catch up with their peers, but rather, staying one step ahead.

Program Philosophy

OSA provides programming that helps underserved BIPOC student-athletes and Pre-PT students (students interested in or currently pursuing Physical Therapy careers) stay one step ahead in reaching their goals.

OSA provides a safe and welcoming space (physical and virtual) for both OSA and the PT Pathway mentees to receive free athletic development, health and wellness programming, academic mentorship and career development opportunities.

We develop mentor-mentee relationships that provide personalized, hands-on guidance, counseling and support in the areas each mentee needs it most. We have an incredible roster of OSA community partners and volunteers who provide vital resources for our mentees.

Currently, we offer two tracks of programming:

  1. The Open Gym program offers strength and physical training for student-athletes.

  2. The PT Pathway program, which is specifically designed for college students who are pursuing degrees and careers in the field of Physical Therapy.

Common to both programs is our commitment to ensure mentees are engaged in activities that will build self-confidence, physical and educational excellence.

OSA strives to be a community and resource center for information, programming, events and opportunities that benefit our mentees. Our programs and services will create an opportune aware, health competent, and community-centered students and student-athletes.
